WOWEE, BASILICA FARM & FLEA 2014

Over 6,000 people celebrated with us THANKSGIVING WEEKEND! #FARMFLEAFUN #BFFHUDSON

hrephoto_crop

A total magical success! Thank you to ALL who came, participated and supported. This was only our second year and we doubled in attendance! This promises to be one of our strongest annual events for years to come.

Basilica Farm & Flea aims to highlight the abundance of small, authentic businesses located within the Hudson Valley. We chose Thanksgiving Day weekend to provide an alternative to the Black Friday “Big Box” holiday shopping experience. Hudson is increasingly being recognized as a destination for quality food, art, antiques, vintage, and history enthusiasts. It’s about time we all come together and celebrate that!

Please take a moment to read our F+F NEWSLETTER and meet some of the vendors on our BASILICA TUMBLR: www.basilicahudson.tumblr.com

FARM + FLEA WEEKEND EVENT AND MARKETPLACE

The Farm + Flea weekend event and marketplace will take place from Saturday, November 29 through Sunday, November 30 from 10 AM – 6 PM. General admission is only $3.00 and free for children under 16.

Items include hand-carved wild-foraged wood cutting boards and spoons; gorgeous handcrafted jewelry; ceramics; health, wellness, and beauty products; textiles and paper goods; furniture, light fixtures and home decor. With the specification that applicants must be independant artists and designers, or collectors of high quality vintage wares, this year’s vendor selection has raised the bar. The superlative selection of vendors includes disciplined craftspersons and community-minded artisans like Owlkill Studio, East to West Woods, Publication Studio, Shana Lee Jewelry, Hudson Naturals, and Wishbone Letterpress. Adorning the space with flags, signs, and garlands will be the work of designer/artist Elise McMahon of Like Minded Objects.

The agricultural bounty of the Hudson Valley at this years Farm + Flea is also not to be missed. Purveying everything from produce, meat, dairy and grains to flowers, herbs, and tinctures will be the diligent farmers and food vendors including Camphill Village, who will be offering candles, wood crafts, biodynamic seeds, woven goods, teas, soaps, handmade books, stained glass, medicinal and culinary herbs and more. Sparrowbush Farm will contribute items including popcorn bagged and hot popped, polenta, flour, vegetables, small wreaths of culinary herbs; while the Raw Milk certified Chaseholm Farm will bring artisanal milk, cheeses, and other local delicacies.

The full list of participating vendors are online at www.basilicafarmandflea.com/vendors.

FOOD + BAR
A sumptuous assortment of farm-to-table eats will be available from caterer and Kite’s Nest Co-Founder Nicole Lobue of Alimentary Kitchen, farmer Ruby Duke of Raven and Boar, and local favorite Truck Pizza. Breakfast pastries will provided by the Placid Baker, along with hand roasted coffee by No. Six Depot. Backyard Cooking Company, Breezyhill Cider, and Brooklyn Oyster Party will be on hand to make sure no bellies are left unfilled!

The bar hosts for Saturday and Sunday are Chatham Brewing. Some of the Hudson Valley’s best beers are “Imported from Main Street”- that’s 59 Main Street in Chatham, NY. Chatham Brewing makes a variety of ales, artfully blending malts and hops while using many locally sourced ingredients to create rich porters, citrusy IPA’s, and barrel-aged ales. The county’s first Farm Brewery, Chatham is proud to part of the regional agricultural economy and Basilica is thrilled to have them as our weekend bar hosts.

Nothing boxed. Nothing prepackaged in plastic wrap. Nothing with a bar code. This year, Basilica Hudson in collaboration with Hudson River Exchange will bring Basilica Farm & Flea back to Hudson for a second time. With more than 80 vendors and 3,500 attendees, last year’s Basilica Farm & Flea was a wildly successful Thanksgiving Weekend marketplace showcasing quality products presented by regional makers, farmers, and vintage collectors.

The “Black Friday Soirée,” kicks-off the weekend event and marketplace on Friday, November 28 from 5-9 PM. The marketplace takes place on Saturday, November 29 through Sunday, November 30 from 10 AM – 6 PM and consists of a diverse group of regional makers, farmers, and vintage collectors. Visitors can come to shop, hear music, eat quality foods, attend one of our educational workshops or cultural lectures.

With 17,000 sq feet of industrial interior space, this promises to be the only market of its kind in the region!

Basilica Farm + Flea is being organized by a team of passionate volunteers, consisting of the Basilica Hudson team and local makers, farmers, and shop owners. To apply to be a volunteer, please click here or fill out the form below.

HOW – SUBMISSION + VENDOR INFORMATION
A non-refundable $10 application fee can be paid with PayPal or all major credit cards by visiting our application page. Due to limited space availability, we may not be able to accommodate all who apply. Vendors will be selected on the basis of quality and uniqueness, as we are looking to bring together a wide variety of content. If selected, the application fee will be deducted from your final booth fee. Thank you for understanding.

The booth fees are as follows: 6′ x 6′ and 8′x8′ space available in the Main Hall for $225 and $375 for whole weekend respectively. Please let us know if you have someone in mind to share a booth with, but note that each submission will be juried individually. If you are sharing a booth, there is a $25 fee in addition to the booth fee.

Participation in Friday evening’s Soirée event is limited to vendors who sign up for the full weekend, though all vendors are welcome to attend. Please indicate your interest in participating in Friday evening’s event on your application form.

There will be rentable tables and chairs and you are welcome to bring additional racks or other displays if you prefer. All displays must fit within the given space. Vendors will be responsible for bringing their own material to create their display. Tables should be covered in a tidy manner so that any extra inventory kept under the tables are hidden from view. Basilica Farm & Flea organizers ask for vendors’ cooperation to adjust or remove any obtrusive display elements at BF&F’s discretion.

The application deadline Wednesday, Oct 1st. We will notify all vendors with our decisions by Wednesday, Oct 8th. Upon acceptance, full booth payment is due.

JURY PROCESS
Farm + Flea is a juried fair, which helps us to keep a varied and wide range of high quality products.

We make decisions based on:
1. How your wares fit into the vision of independent, handmade, unique and carefully selected products.
2. The consistency and quality of your work, packaging and identity.
3. Diversity of products at BASILICA FARM & FLEA. For example we accept a limited amount of vendors in each category such as, jewelry, clothing, paper goods, lighting, leather goods, baby items, etc.
4. The diversity of designs or products you sell. We are looking for consistency with-in a line of products. We prefer vendors that have specialized in a product but offer a variety with in that genre.
5. How your items are priced and if your pricing is consistent with both the quality of the work and the pricing of the BASILICA FARM & FLEA audience. We are looking for vendors that price there product between $5-$250.

CANCELLATION AND REFUNDS
Unfortunately, Basilica Farm & Flea is unable to refund fees once final payment has been received for the spaces due to the costs that go into the production of the markets.

FARM + FLEA WAS A HIT!

FARM + FLEA WAS A HIT!

Up to 3500 people came to the Basilica Hudson this Thanksgiving Day weekend – our largest attendance this season.

This incredible response makes it clear that there is a strong desire to showcase and celebrate the best of what the Hudson Valley has to offer: Farms, Food, Makers, Collectors and Strong Community. People came from all around, many first time visitors were greeted at the door. The positive response from all was overwhelming, this will certainly become a yearly event at Basilica Hudson

Meet our Hudson Collectors and Makers that made this weekend so special.

Thank you Bust Magazine, Modern Farmer Magazine, Green Mountain Energy, City of Hudson and Secret Weapon for sponsoring the event

All the great work by our organizers Elise McMahon, Lauren Giambrone, Tess Diamond, Maggie Carr of Bust and our small Basilica Hudson team made this weekend possible and the food by Nicole LoBue of Alimentary Kitchen made it delicious.

The music was thanks to Wet Spell featuring Pat Linnan, Jim Krewson and Sauerkraut Seth for performing on Saturday and Penn Sultan for performing on Sunday.

Hudson Valley’s Still the One Distillery provided Comb 9 / Jarhead Gin and to Harvest Sprits for the Cornelius Applejack for our Black Friday Soirée Kick-off event! Thank you Fish & Game and Lady Jayne’s Alchemy for designing the cocktails, and Alvaro of Truck Pizza for parking out front and serving the masses all weekend!

Happy holiday season and thank you for all of your support this past year, we look forward to sharing more with you next year.

Thank you David Koch for the lovely time lapse video.
